Hygiene & Sterilisation

At Tour Medical we go the extra mile to ensure our clinic is kept at high level of cleanliness and is constantly sterilized in every area and room in the clinic. When you visit our clinic you will see that we prevent the spread of germs and bacteria before entering. We offer plastic shoe covers to prevent the spread of germs picked up from outside.

The reception area is a wide space where the floor is mopped every hour with antibacterial detergent and all surfaces a wiped with antibacterial wipes. This then means that the area is cleaned before and after patient visiting the clinic. The air conditioning system we use clinic filters the air coming inside. The filters clean the air to stop bacteria entering the room.

The clinics are kept clean and sterile at all times. We take high measures to ensure safety for everyone at all times. Before and after each patient the chair, lights and all hard surfaces are washed and then wiped down with antibacterial wipes keeping germs and bacteria at bay. The instruments that are to be used should and are only opened and removed from the plastic packets while a patient is in the chair. This keeps the instruments at a sterile state longer.

Because the dental chair is where the magic happen we pay close attention to cross infection risks here. We have invested in the latest dental chair available. The dental chair we use is a product of Anthos- one of the leading technology companies in Dental units. The chair itself runs on a Bioster system. This is a hygiene device that disinfects the dental water unit using a 3% of hydrogen peroxide content. This means that it ensures a thorough disinfection on the dental units water system. By using hydrogen peroxide it ensure that the W.H.E system has a continuous bacteriostatic effect on the water lines. This in turn reduces that bacteria count and maintains the safety of waters microbiological qualities. We carry out this disinfection cycle after each patient to ensure the water system is flushed and all parts of the chair are cleaned.

The unit is smartly designed to minimise contamination risks for both patient and medical staff. All the parts from the dental chair unit can be removed to wash and sterilize individually i.e – hand-pieces, stickers, plastic covers, sink, lamp etc. We wash all the hand-pieces thoroughly in a special system in our sterilisation and sanitation area.

Once a treatment is finished, the dental nurse will place all dental instruments on a dental tray, cover them and take them to the sterilization room. Distilled water is used to on all cleaning systems here as well as many other areas in the clinic such as the dental unit and mouth rinse for the patient. Using distilled water means it is pure and prevents contamination.

To begin the process the nurse will then replace her gloves to prevent cross infection and continueto clean the clinic. Floors are washed and all hard surfaces and hygienically wiped down. Toxic waste and non toxic waste is separated and put in separate bins and a sharps bin is provided for the used needles.

Our sterilization area is a room dedicated to sterilizing dental instruments. The used instruments are placed in a cassette and washed. Similar instruments are placed in the same cassette. From here they are placed in an Ultrasonic machine. This machine uses a special solution and that give a through clean. It works by using cavitation bubbles induced by high pressure that penetrates and rids dirt from blind spots, holes and cracks. After this step, they are placed into a dental dishwasher called a Thermo disinfector, this is used not only to clean but it disinfect and sterilizes the instruments at 95 degrees. Once this completed, the instrument are removed and places in special dental packets. These packets are organized in how a dentist will require them at any given time. The packets are placed in an autoclave at 134 degrees and steamed, This kills off, if any remaining bacteria, viruses and harmful microbes. When the packets are removed and cooled they are place back in the clinic in an organized system and only in front of a patient

We also take what we wear into consideration. Our uniforms are only worn inside the clinic, a rule all medical areas should. Our staff put in on each morning when they arrive in the clinic and remove it before they go home. Our uniforms are washed is certain way that kills bacteria and prevent cross infection. We wear gloves at all times when in the clinic and change them multiple times, They are put on to treat a patient and must be removed if they are to touch anything other than the patient, sterile instruments and the equipment. The gloves are changed and replaced when staff leave the room, need to place anything in the bin or need to wash a surface. During each treatment, the staff also wear a mouth and nose mask and a dental bib and glasses are given to the patient, This protects the patients’ clothes and eyes.

We pride ourselves in knowing that our clinic goes far and beyond to keep our hygienic standards to a maximum level. We do not consider it as extra work or just to keep up with health regulations. This strategy is part our daily routine here at Tour Medical and it works for us. We are a practice that considers everyone and everything at each step and we like to believe we provide only the best standard of hygiene.
